Fourteen years ago, Stabler had a chance to nail Gordon Rickett for the abduction, rape and murder of Dana MacNamara, but Rickett managed to get off. With the recent discovery of the body of Kerry Lynn Palmer, Stabler has another chance at cracking the case. They can only hold Rickett for twenty-four hours, but are able to glean enough information during that time period to at least have a place to start. Cragen and Benson both worry that Stabler will let his hatred for the suspected child molester interfere with his ability to do his job.

Bracken calls Herman into his office to inform him that he is having a heart attack, and leaves Herman in charge of the office in his absence. Oddly enough Jason Bernard eventually succumbed to a real-life heart attack four years later in 1996. Meanwhile, Herman's brother comes to town and introduces him to his new fiancée, who makes a secret pass at Herman.

Fitch, Washington and Sanchez investigate a missing teenager, Seth Cantor. Everything points to his high school buddies who are running drugs from across the Canadian border. The crime seems to copycat the style of the Purple Gang, an old Detroit mob – indications of a violent murder without a body. Longford and Majahan's case involves a murdered high stakes poker player. The player was trying to win enough money to pay for his child's organ transplant but he's found dead without his winnings from the tournament.

High School Senior Kenny Dantley's only love in life is cars. For a shop class project, he and his classmates build a Corvette ("Stingray"). The car is a big hit -- so big, in fact, that gets stolen! Kenny, having fallen in love with the car, sets out on a summer-long adventure in Las Vegas to find it. Along the way, he meets up with a "hooker-in-training" named "Vanessa". The two encounter danger and romance as they try to steal back the Stingray.

A research team from an electronics company move into an old Victorian house to start work on finding a new recording medium. When team member Jill Greeley witnesses a ghost, team director Peter Brock decides not only to analyse the apparition, which he believes is a psychic impression trapped in a stone wall (dubbed a "stone tape"), but to exorcise it too - with terrifying results.
