River City Wrestling #102
Winnipeg Convention Centre, Winnipeg, Manitoba
Tonight we have a tag team extravaganza, with four tag team matches scheduled for the show. The main event will feature the fallout from last week's main event, as RCW champion The Destroyer teams up with Ray Stevens, to take on the duo of Greg Valentine and Pat Patterson. If Patterson and Valentine win that match then Valentine will be granted another title shot at the Destroyer.

Jeannie Rahib & Tanya Tataryn defeated the England Sisters by disqualification for outside interference at 6:24 when Rahib was attacked by a newcomer (Judy Martin).
The Cuban Assassin and The Iranian Assassin defeated Buddy Lane and Kerry Brown when The Cuban pinned Brown after a powerslam in 0:05:58.

**after the match, angered by the loss Brown turned on his partner Lane
RCW matchmaker Marty Goldstein comes to the ring. He calls out Chris Lyon and Mike Valiant. While they both come down to the ring to a chorus of boos, the two former friends can barely stand to look at each other. That point is not lost to Goldstein, however he asks them to put aside their differences for a bit. He says that the current tag champions the Roughnecks (the fans cheer) do not have a very long list of potential opponents at this time. Goldstein says that because Lyon vacated the belts, they never lost them, and if they were willing to give it another try he would grant them a title shot tonight. Valiant is the first to say to Goldstein that he'll do it if Lyon does, to which Lyon just nods. Goldstein wishes them well.
The Roughnecks defeated Mike Valiant and Chris Lyon when Stan defeated Lyon by countout in 0:11:57.
[The Roughnecks retained the RCW Tag Team Championships.]
Post-Match:
Lyon was counted out after being busted open and devastated by Stan Rodgers.
Mike Valiant went to pay his respects to Chris Lyon, but his former friend just pushed him away and left for the back alone.
Main Event

Ray Stevens and The Destroyer defeated Pat Patterson and Greg Valentine when Stevens pinned Patterson after an inside cradle in 0:09:09.

NHL on AbazaTV Schedule 2011-2012

With the excitement surrounding the NHL returning to Winnipeg, Abaza's sister city, NHL on AbazaTV will be expanded this year. The following (very) tentative schedule has 177 regular season games. Where there is a time conflict between games, a broadcast will be shown on a delayed basis (taped).

For a couple of years now AbazaTV has been paying tribute to the nostalgic and often forgotten NHL on CTV, which was an attempt by the Carling O'Keefe brewery family to break into the NHL broadcast game and try and get some of what was a monopoly at the time for CBC and Molson's. Read more about it at this wikipedia page.
I remember getting to see these teams, especially the eastern seaboard teams like Hartford, Washington, and New Jersey, as well as Quebec which you seldom saw back in the pre-cable (TSN) days. One thing I vividly remember was some of the very dark arenas that the games were broadcast from. So, in tribute AbazaTV chose the game with the least exposure to broadcast on Friday nights; 7:00pm est games from Souteast division cities, or New Jersey if possible. There is actually an entire pecking order of deciding factors including start time preference for 6:00pm CST, not a Canadian visiting team, and a list of secondary hosts like Pittsburgh, Columbus, Chicago, NY Islanders, and Buffalo.

But with the addition of Winnipeg to the schedule this year the new team's games take first preference. Then the Carling O'Keefe game of the week, then the Hockey Night in Canada broadcasts, and then the occasional other game tossed into the mix. Saturday afternoons I can remember there being broadcast back in the 70's some

Hour #1
Thaddeus Coleman & Ricky Foley (/w Jessica Hatch) defeated Jack Hasse & Sicodelica by pinfall
**the SSA (Strong Side Assassins) as the duo of former pro Football players have started to call themselves seemed a lot more focused and confident under the leadership of Hatch as opposed to Grindhouse Barbie which now just seems like a bad dream. They are back in the title hunt.
**Jack Larkin comes out to set up tonight's main event. Since Jody Christmas owes Collin Green a TV title match, and Uriah owes Jody Christmas a heavyweight title shot, we will combine those tonight. It will be a 3-way match, first pinfall wins, and if Christmas or Uriah loses they will lose their title to whomever beats them.
Gregor Wynn & Ivan (/w Svetlana & Katrina) defeated Moses Luke & Donnie DiCaprio by pinfall
**Ivan did most of the heavy lifting in this match but it was the ability to bend the rules and come up with just the right spots by Wynn that lead to the Russian duo's victory.
**Post-Match, Donnie DiCaprio could not shake the blues he was feeling, and told Moses Luke that he is through wrestling as a tag team.
Snake Match; Nikki Crawford defeated Deanna Conda in a "snake match"
**Deanna Conda wanted some revenge on Crawford for her having thrown snakes into the ring in her match. So she made up this match where a snake was put in a cage and the first one to be able to release the snake would be victorious. Conda said her plan was not just to release the snake but to put it across Crawford and make the naughty housewife snap for good. However, Crawford controlled the match early but when she had a chance to release the snake she hesitated too long, scared of the snake and this allowed Conda to strike from behind. Conda punished Crawford for a couple minutes and then went to release the snake. However, as she was fumbling with the lock Crawford caught her from behind and maced her in the eyes. Crawford released the snake and quickly ran out of the ring.
APW Women's Title Match: Return match
Amy Bates defeated Grindhouse Barbie by pinfall in 36 seconds
[Any Bates retained the APW Women's title]
**Bates just put an exclamation point on her victory in this feud.
Hour #2
**Dangerous Darren Michaels comes to the ring and gets jeered by the fans. He says its not often that he see's potential in another wrestler but he sees that in Jody Christmas. But frankly ever since Christmas started to go for Uriah's belt he hasn't had the same killer instinct. He says that if Christmas is willing, if he isn't completely retarded, he'll accept his invitation for some advice before the main event tonight. But from the back comes Wiry Collin Green instead of Christmas. Green tells Michaels there are already too many managers, valets, eye candy, etc in the APW and he is just taking up time and space for someone younger who can still wrestle. Michaels tells Green to watch his back tonight in the main event, and then feigns to walk away, but when Green does the same, the Dangerous one takes him out from behind by clipping his knee. He then delivers a kneebreaker, and then wraps the knee around the steel ring post a couple times before help comes out. As Michaels walks away though he gets a big smile on his face when Jody Christmas walks out from the back and nods to him; the two walk away together as the fans jeer.
Steve Corino defeated Mentallo by pinfall
**Corino the veteran seemed like the underdog in this match but still managed to pull it out much to the fans delight.
**After the match Donnie DiCaprio came out and asked Corino if he would train and manage him, as he was spinning his wheels, and really didn't know what else to do. At first Corino tried to tell him no, but after DiCaprio was very persistent, finally he told DiCaprio that he would wrestle against him next week to make his final decision. He warned DiCaprio that it would be a hardcore match, and to prepare himself accordingly.
APW Tag Team Title Match;
Rulon Gardner & Raymond Bingham defeated Asp Evergreen & Eddie Chavez by disqualification
[Evergreen & Chavez retained the APW Tag Team Titles]
**Gardner and Bingham controlled early, but then the tag champs made a series of quick tags and some subtle double teaming to take control of the match and show why they are APW legends. However, Evergreen tried for a splash from the top rope and his foot slip on the top buckle, and he crashed to the mat a couple feet short of the downed Bingham. The challengers went to work on Evergreen's weakened knee and he could not get a tag in to Chavez. The titles looked lost as Chavez was yelling at his partner its not worth it and to just submit while he was in a figure-four. Unable to watch any longer Chavez raced into the ring and broke up the figure-four. But he was backed away by the ref and this allowed Bingham and Gardner to double team the knee while Chavez argued with the ref. Just as it looked like Chavez was going to throw in the towel, suddenly CHYNA hit the ring to a huge pop from the crowd. It had been a long time since anyone saw Asp's ex-wife in APW and she immediately went to his aid taking out Bingham and Gardner with lowblows from behind. The ref caught the end of it and called for the DQ saving the tag titles from changing hands. Chavez just looked on stunned as Chyna tried to help revive Asp who must have passed out in pain. When Asp opened his eyes he and Chyna kissed!
Main Event
3-way Match; APW Heavyweight Title and Television Title on the line
Uriah (/w Jessica Hatch) v Jody Christmas v Wiry Collin Green
**no sign of Darren Michaels to start this match but it was an obvious distraction for Green who kept looking into the crowd for any sign of him. Uriah on the other hand was focused like a lazer beam and went right after Christmas, beating him from pillar to post. Green caught Uriah from behind and tossed him out of the ring. Green went right after Christmas taking over where Uriah had left off, and Uriah made a couple attempts to get back into the ring but each time Green was there to knock him back down. Finally as Green covered Christmas and got a 2 count Uriah made it back into the ring. He fed Green a big boot to the face, and then promptly threw him over the top rope. Uriah then punished Christmas with a full nelson into a sit down slam, a pumphandle bodyslam, and then a chokeslam, for 1, 2, kickout. Green had now climbed to the top rope and as Uriah turned around Green nailed him with a flying dropkick to the head. Both of his opponents down Green covered Christmas, and got 1, 2,...Green looking over at the downed Uriah decided to let Christmas go and instead go cover Uriah for 1, 2...Uriah's shoulder came up and his hands wrapped around Green's throat. He rolled him off, and then straddled him for some ground and pound. Christmas woke up, saw what was happening. He also saw Darren Michaels now standing at ringside directly behind Jessica Hatch. Instead of taking a shot at Uriah from behind he elected to just roll out of the ring and grab his title belt. Hatch tried to get in his way, but then Michaels took her out with an inverted DDT from behind, a move that seemed to shock even Christmas. The ref was alternating between trying to count Christmas out of the match and count Uriah a 5 count for closed fists. But when Uriah saw Hatch on the ground and Michaels leering over her he decided to go rescue his manager. But as he climbed through the ropes Christmas blasted him with the title belt. Uriah fell down inside the ring, and Christmas was going to climb in after him but when Green stumbled to his feet Darren Michaels pulled Christmas off the ring apron and convinced him to just leave it alone. Green dropped an elbow on Uriah and covered for 1, 2, Kickout! Uriah was back on his feet, shrugging off a couple kicks to the midsection, and chokeslammed Green to the mat. He then lifted him sky high and delivered a jack knife powerbomb. He covered Green and got the 3 count.
Uriah defeated Darren Michael and Colin Green by pinfall in a 3-way match when he pinned Green
[Uriah retained the APW Heavyweight title]
[Jody Christmas retained the APW Television title]

Movie: "Tunnel Vision" (1976)
Phil Proctor, Howard Hesseman, Ron Silver, John Candy
This 1976 film tries to predict what American television will be like in the year 1985. Tunnelvision is America's first "uncensored and free" television network. Although wildly popular, it is also blamed for increased crime and unemployment. Christian A. Broder, president and founder of Tunnelvision, is called to defend his network in front of a Senate sub-committee. The sub-committee decides to view excerpts from a "typical" day of Tunnelvision broadcasting. What follows is a series of brief skits lampooning television, including cop shows, news broadcasts, situation comedies, and (of course) commercials.

2nd Anniversary of Abaza TV

Tomorrow, June 24th marks the 2nd Anniversary of Abaza TV going live on the air. To mark the occasion we will be changing our programming somewhat over the next couple of weeks.

Instead of your regular slotted programs in time slots such as weekday afternoons and Saturday mornings, as well as our free for all time slots such as weekday mornings, we will be presenting the best of and worst of the past 2 years of Abaza TV.

Starting with the first day on air we will rebroadcast the highlites and lowlites, but will continue to mix in new product offerings each day. The rebroadcasts will work their way through the past 2 years chronologically.

This change in programming will likely last for the next 2 weeks, and 3 weekends, so should wrap up mid-July.

We hope you enjoy as much as we have enjoyed bringing you 2 years of Abaza TV.

What would Abaza TV's lineup have looked like in 1980-81?

Network points awarded 1 for each hour on the schedule, 1/2 point for a half hour show.
Bold is the pick of the night bringing the network a bonus of 1 point regardless of length of show. Sports programs are not eligible to be the pick of the night.
After feedback from episode #1, 1979-80, I've decided to no longer allow time shift or day shift. All programs will only be available in their fall lineup spot or their replacement winter spot. So some split hours will happen where a sit-com will take the first half hour, then a drama will be joined in progress (if that's how I would have watched it).

Hour #1
**Donnie DiCaprio comes out to the ring bemoaning his recent bad luck and lack of wins. He says he needs a sure win, needs to get back on the winning track so he challenges J.D. McKay to the ring. The confused veteran comes out and asks DiCaprio what he is playing at as the crowd begins to grow an instant dislike to DiCaprio. However, in the end McKay accepts the match
Donnie DiCaprio defeats J.D. McKay by pinfall
**fueled by his anger over being called out McKay makes DiCaprio think twice about his "easy win" comments. In fact DiCaprio has to resort to chokes and other illegal moves to get the advantage. And in the end he needs a handfull of tights too to secure the tainted win.
**Jody Christmas is told that he does not get a rematch tonight against Uriah because he has a scheduled title defense for the TV title against the #1 contender Collin Green. He is told that even if he forfeits the belt he won't get a HWC title match tonight, so he decides to defend the TV title.
Non-title match: Asp Evergreen & Eddie Chavez defeated Buck Kake & El Camino by pinfall
**the current champs have little trouble with the former champs. They look forward to meeting next week with the winners of the #1 contender match. While they won't pick a favorite, they say its probably a good move for Coleman & Foley to have dumped Grindhouse Barbie.
Lacey & Rain versus Deanna Conda & Annie Social ends in a no-contest
**After last week's tune-up of the women's roster on Nikki Crawford, instead of settling things it seemed to just stir things up more. Nikki Crawford showed up at ringside with a basket. She pulled off the top and released several large snakes into the ring. All the women freaked even the hardedged Conda and Social. The ref climbed to the top buckle and called for the bell...and help.
Gregor Wynn defeated Moses Luke in a Russian chain match
**Luke controlled most of this match using the chain to bust up Wynn. The match was edited for TV with some parts cut out and other parts obscured due to the violent and bloody nature. However in the end, although he had a bit of outside help from Ivan, for the most part Wynn won the match himself. He used a smart attack of wrapping Luke's hand across the ringpost with the chain and doing some massive damage. He then used the top rope with the chain over it to choke and hang Luke. Eventually he finished him off with a modified swining neckbreaker using the chain. The fact that Donnie DiCaprio did not come out at all to help his tag partner was not lost on the announce team.
Hour #2
#1 Contenders match; Rulon Gardner & Raymond Bingham defeated Thaddeus Coleman & Ricky Foley
**the fans had no clue who to cheer for but quickly decided that Bingham's huge ego was enough to make him enemy #1. Gardner & Bingham wrestled circles around the bigger but less skilled former football players who looked clumsy and out of timing. Gardner and Bingham used the old referee distraction when their opponents tried to make a tag thus frustrating their opponents. The end came when the ref had to physically hold back Coleman, and this allowed Gardner and Bingham to nail a stuffed piledriver on Foley.
**following the match Jessica Hatch came into the ring to talk to a dejected Coleman and Foley. She made sure they understood that Uriah was languishing under Derek St.  Holmes before she took over his career, now he is the heavweight champ. They don't even have a manager right now. She offers to manage them and promises them that she will lead them to the tag titles again. It's unlikely the big lugs absorbed everything she was saying as they were fascinated with her daisy dukes shorts and tank top. But they nodded their heads yes, picked their tongues off the mat, and followed her out of the ring.
RCW Women's Title Match
Amy Bates defeated Grindhouse Barbie by pinfall in an Apartment Wrestling Match
[Amy Bates won the RCW Women's Title]
**Bates beat the living hell out of Barbie from using one of her hundred pairs of shoes in the bedroom, to smashing the framed Quentin Tarantino movie poster over Barbie's head in the living room, to trying to bust her open with a cheese grater in the kitchen. The match spilled out of the apartment into the hallway where Barbie gained a quick advantage when one of the neighbors tried to intervene, and then Barbie opened up a fire extinguisher on Bates. But back inside the apartment Bates took control again with a monkey flip that sent Barbie smacking into the glass balcony doors. Bates soon hit a spinning DDT off the kitchen table and covered for the win and the title.
RCW Television Title Match
Jody Christmas and Collin Green battled to a no-contest
[Christmas retained the TV Title]
**Christmas controlled early showing his experience and confidence advantage. As usual Green kept up a running conversation with the ref, Christmas, some fans, etc, but as the match wore on he was a bit more quiet then usual. As the match wore on Green not only became quieter but he also started to take control of the match. Christmas got a temporary reprieve when he nailed Green with a knee to the groin in the corner, undetected by the ref. Christmas followed up with a double underhook suplex, and was about to climb to the top rope when heavyweight champion Uriah slid into the ring.
The big champ caught Christmas and brought him down with a slam. He followed up with a powerbomb. Green tried to attack Uriah from behind but he got caught with a chokeslam for his trouble. Christmas launched himself at the champ but the behemoth scooped him up and delivered a running slam into the buckle. He proceeded to hang him in the tree of whoa, and allowed his manager Jessica Hatch to start to slap the taste out of his mouth.
Suddenly the lights flickered several times, getting the champ's attention, and "Dangerous Tonight" by Alice Cooper filled the arena. Some of the fans, those that remembered Mid-American Pro Wrestling from around 2004 (the predecessor to APW) knew what to expect and started to cheer out of anticipation but perhaps not happiness.
"Dangerous" Darren Michaels slid into the ring holding a barb-wire covered baseball bat. The former NWA, WWA, PWA, and MAPW star had a staredown with Uriah. But when the lights began to flicker again the champ seemed to have had enough confrontation for one night and left the ring with his manager Hatch.
What is Darren Michaels, perhaps the most sadistic man to ever step foot into a mid-western ring doing in APW?
