In St. Patrick's Day Eve, while all the city turns green with celebration, the team faces two corpses of two young journalists drenched in red. They'll lead them to discover a big secret about the gold making operation fraud that could prove deadly for Reed's friend who saw the crime and was about to expose the secret.

When they get to the new land, they find jobs and begin saving money. The man becomes a local barehands boxer, and rides in glory until he is beaten, then his employers steal all the couple's money and they must fight off starvation in the winter, and try to keep their dream of owning land alive. Meanwhile, the woman's parents find out where she has gone and have come to America to find her and take her back.

Ben comes home and Val cries with joy. The hitman actually shot Ray, not Gary. Cathy calls Ray's mom to tell her, and Laura overhears. Laura tells Greg, who asks Karen why none of the Ewings came to Gary's funeral, and tells St. Claire that he thinks Gary is still alive. Abby mourns for Gary. Greg tells Abby to sell Lotus Point to Wolfbridge, but she won't. Greg tells St. Claire that he is through dealing with him, and calls Abby to tell her Gary's alive. Ben figures out what Mac is doing, and is furious with him because Val could have lost her babies. Ben punches Mac. Abby goes to the MacKenzies and tells Karen that Gary's alive and Mac is using him to get to Wolfbridge. Karen feels very betrayed and confronts Mac. She's upset at all the pain he has caused and tells him their marriage is over, and gives him her wedding ring back.

The camp succumbs to the Asian flu, except for Hawkeye and Margaret, who have to do everything themselves. As the others start to recover, Hawkeye falls ill but he still manages to operate when wounded arrive. Finally the others are well enough for Hawkeye to stop working and rest. He is thanked for his service with a commemorative roll of toilet paper.
