The survivors begin to struggle as they realize they are running out of fresh water. Meanwhile, Jack continues to see his dead father's figure on the Island. Flashbacks in this episode show a little bit of Jack's childhood and also what Jack was doing in Australia.

When Jin attacks Michael without provocation, a rivalry begins to form, much to Sun's dismay. Meanwhile, Jack proposes that everyone move to the caves, though some argue that this would be giving up on possible rescue. Flashbacks in this episode concentrate around Sun and Jin's marriage and how it was slowly falling apart.

Charlie struggles with withdrawal symptoms after giving his remaining heroin stash to John Locke. Elsewhere, Sayid sets in motion his plan to isolate the origin of the French distress signal, in the hope that it could provide a means of finding a way off the Island. Flashbacks in this episode center around Charlie's struggles with the temptations involved with being a rockstar and also his older brother's massive ego.

Flashbacks in this episode focus on a smooth-talking Sawyer conning his lover Jessica and her family.
