TV Rewind 2.09 - "1990-91"

What would Abaza TV's schedule have looked like in 1990-91?

Network points awarded 1 for each hour on the schedule, 1/2 point for a half hour show.

Bold is the pick of the night bringing the network a bonus of 1 point regardless of length of show. Sports programs are not eligible to be the pick of the night.

After feedback from episode #1, 1979-80, I've decided to no longer allow time shift or day shift. All programs will only be available in their fall lineup spot or their replacement winter spot. So some split hours will happen where a sit-com will take the first half hour, then a drama will be joined in progress (if that's how I would have watched it).

FOX  3.0

12 Year Total
ABC  104.5
CBS  126.0
NBC  106.5
FOX   11.0

It absolutely kills me to put Murder She Wrote on the list, one of the most bland shows of all time, but the rest of the timeslot was just awful. So was the time slot won by Seinfeld even though it was a late season replacement.

NBC kicked ass this year, especially the clean sweep on Friday night. Law & Order did not win their night only because it was a new show and I was still not 100% into it yet. Will this be a start of a decade long dominance that takes them from third place overall last year to first? Remember "must watch TV"?

CBS was pretty limited to just a dominant Thursday night schedule with Knots Landing maybe being my favorite show of the year.

ABC still riding the sit-coms and Monday Night Football.

CBS got totally obliterated this year, with only Knots Landing, Newhart and Tour of Duty really holding any sway over me. CBS had won the previous two years and still holds a commading lead in the all-time battle.

ABC won the year thanks to strong sit-com blocks, and also continues to hold a small lead over NBC in the all-time scoreboard.

ABC  77.5

There are some just awful slots, like having to pick Falcon Crest, Beauty and the Beast, Moonlighting, and MacGyver. Starting to see a little bit of the Friday and Saturday slack off from the networks.
Fox made a successful first season on our charts.
CBS was led to victory by some great dramas, while ABC held off NBC thanks to its sit-coms and Monday Night Football.

After two straight wins NBC comes up with a tie this year.
Huge comeback for CBS led by their dramas Equalizer and Knots Landing.

Next season the TV landscape changes forever as FOX TV joins with a partial network lineup.

NBC won for the second straight year, even doing a bit better then last year, and equalling the other two network's combined points.
ABC made a bit of a resurrgence passing CBS which dropped off quite a bit losing ground particularly on their Wednesday night comedy block and Saturday night action.
Despite two straight years victory, NBC is still trailing in 3rd place due to a slow start. However, they looked posed to move past ABC next year.

Battle of the Network Stars;
CBS  13.5
ABC 10.5
NBC 5

2 year total
ABC  23.5
CBS  25.0
NBC   9.5

After two years CBS holds a slight advantage over ABC, and NBC is far behind.

This year had some interesting battles as ABC's sit-com blocks of pairing an established sit-com with a new one was pitted against CBS's dramas. ABC swept Tuesday night, while NBC's one island seems to be Wednesday night where they swept.
