This was the pilot to the television series that was inspired by the movie which starred Joan Crawford. In it Lane Ballou who travels with a circus as an exotic dancer, decides to leave it. And where they were was Truro, Florida, she meets Fielding Carlyle, a law school graduate currently working for the Sheriff's department. It seems that Titus Semple, the (corrupt) sheriff, is grooming him for a future in politics part of that is making sure that Fielding marries the right woman, someone like, Constance Weldon. However, when Field starts to develop an interest in Lane, Titus does everything he can to stop that, but Lane is not about to get pushed around.

Simon & Simon 1.06 - "The Dead Letter File" (1982)Janet finds a letter in Rick and A.J's office that says that a noted businessman committed a murder years ago and the location of the evidence that implicates the man. Only problem the location is not specific. They start by approaching the man who gets spooked and wonders who could have talk but everyone who knows anything is dead. That is until he remembers that one of them has a daughter. So he tries to take her out and she turns to Rick and A.J. who approached her earlier, for help. And they continue to try and find the location of the evidence.

Unsure of what to build, Fitzy's grandmother suggests that, because of Dog River's farming heritage, the town should build the World's Biggest Hoe. It could be coming out of the ground, covered in soil and be the World's Biggest Dirtiest Hoe. Brent completely disagrees, but can't bring himself to tell Fitzy's grandmother why Dog River can't build a great big dirty hoe. Oscar has his own problems though: he thinks that the lovely Lacey has a crush on him.

Against the wishes of the Sheriff, Grissom pushes to get at the truth of the matter-he thinks the suicide was actually a homicide, and uses theories on electrocution to look for his killer. Meanwhile, Nick and Catherine take on a case with little more than angora fibers to follow. A teenage boy dies while in session with his female psychologist, and traces of angora on his underwear make them believe the psychologist may be practicing very unconventional methods of "therapy."

Meanwhile, Nick and Catherine are called to the site of a large fire and are confronted with the scuba diver found dead in the top of a tree near Lake Mead. Is it a murder or an urban legend turned fact?
