Colonel Potter becomes obsessed with winning the game, and excludes Margaret from the team because she helped the team lose at softball. Then the 4077th team hear the Marines have got a "ringer" in their team after pulling some strings..... Meanwhile, Hawkeye finds out his father is in hospital and tries to speak to him over the phone, watched by Charles, who envies Hawkeye's close relationship with his father.

They decide to complete their case against Julio before quitting, but then begin being careful. Their effectiveness drops as they find they can't operate the way they did before if they don't have the edge of a long time commitment.

Upset that he would not stop when she asked, she forces him out of her house and the next day files sexual harassment charges against him. Marsh takes Randy Willitz (Cole Hauser), a rookie, out for his first day. Lenny (Matt Craven) and Jerry are cruising a residential neighborhood where they pull over a car with a dangling muffler. As Jerry approaches the car, he is suddenly gunned down and the driver speeds away.

Karen suffers from withdrawal. Gary goes to see her and says if he could get through it, she can. Karen is outraged that he would compare her plight with his alcoholism. Karen finally opens up in group. Karen's therapist wants Mac in on her therapy too. Mac feels they're ganging up on him. Ben tells Val to tell people that the baby is Gary's, as he's tired of everyone bugging him about it, and he wants to be free of her.
