John's buddy has trouble dealing with being locked up and makes the whole situation worse. Sipowicz is convinced that a man knows more about his wife's death than he is letting on so he stirs him up. Janice warns Kelly and saves his life during a drug raid and the event seems to bring them back together.

The team investigates a woman that re-appears after weeks of being missing with a rare disease, and she inexplicably causes pain and death to the people she meets. Leslie (Aunjanue Ellis) and Len (Matt Craven) are on a stakeout, looking for a young man who robs women at an ATM at knife point. Terry (Matthew Beck) discovers that he used stolen materials to build a nursery for his soon to be born baby. Leslie continues to search for her daughter.

After Marcellus frames bookie Nick Bennett for smuggling guns and Bennett's wife asks Mike to help clear him, Mike discovers that Jack Shannon is blackmailing Marcellus and using him to extort Bennett. Mike arranges a sit-down between Bennett and Shannon, tricks Shannon into confessing to a crime, and uses the confession which Marcellus has captured on tape to blackmail Shannon into cutting Bennett and Marcellus loose.
