Emperess Savina Rules over the magical empire Izmer. The young thieves Ridley and Snails get involved with her quest to find the legendary Scepter of Savrille. With this most desirable magical wand she could have the power to rule over the Red Dragons and she would then be able to provide freedom and equality amongst all people. Ridley and Snails are closely followed by Damodar, the cruel assistant of Profion who is longing for the power of the Scepter. Profion wants to get into battle with the Emperess. Whenever Profion would get his hands on the Scepter, the whole empire would then forever live in darkness. The future depends on the braveness of Ridley and Snails.

Young Robbie Wheeling (Tom Hanks) plays the Mazes and Monsters game with his friends. They're everything to him; a refuge from his family and the heartbreaks of reality. One day, as he and his friends undertake their first live-action roleplay, Robbie's mind snaps; in that instant, he takes on the simple personality of Pardue, his cleric character in the game. He vanishes, and Lieutenant Martini (Murray Hamilton) suspects foul play, whether accidental or intentional, on the part of his fellow players... until Robbie, in one brief moment of clarity, calls home from distant New York. Returned home, he returns to being Pardue, now safe in the arms of his friends and family, who pray he will someday return to normal.

Unknowingly, Richie, Potsie, and Ralph are invited to a party hosted by the She Devils gang in which the Devil who brings in the biggest nerd wins a $100 prize. After Richie discovers the purpose of the party, he and the guys head for the door. However, several Devils come in carrying a sack containing a guy who jilted the sister of the gang's leader. The guy is Chachi.

Laverne and Shirley try to help Squiggy by pointing out to him that his latest great-looking girlfriend is just using him to help her move into and decorate her new apartment. When they finally confront Squiggy with the news, he tells them he knows he's being used but is lucky to have a chance to be with a beautiful girl like that.

Kelly gets a high priced attorney to defend Janice and helps out with her bail. Andy tries to make amends with Sylvia who's been attending Alanon meetings. Kelly investigates the murder of a priest. While helping his son look for a car, Andy comes across a lead in the disappearance case that has frustrated him for 2 1/2 years. John and Robin meet for lunch and then again later that night.

A car accident results in Lindsay deciding to stop hanging out with her "freak" friends. She decides to rejoin the mathletes and start hanging out with Millie again. Sam adopts a new modern hair style in the hopes of impressing Cindy. When this fails, he seeks out a new wardrobe.

The team investigates a woman that re-appears after weeks of being missing with a rare disease, and she inexplicably causes pain and death to the people she meets. In the investigation dangerous level of radiation are detected. Meanwhile, Walter obsesses about cotton candy, Peter strikes a deal with Nina Sharp and a truth about Olivia is discovered.

A genetically-engineered parasite mysteriously latches onto a FBI agent's heart. Agent Dunham rushes to Germany to meet a prisoner for information about the threat they face.
